It always surprises me how many deactivated users there are here. And maybe most of them are the natural consequence of URL-hopping, but beyond those, the ones that intentionally deactivated--just the idea of actively deciding to terminate an account is so foreign to me.
I'm in the business of atrophy.
My Neopets exist, and persist, and are dying and continue to die for the last ten years my account has been dark. My penguin lived until the day Club Penguin died, immobile in its igloo, decoration among the puffles. My Webkinz stand in rooms which time refuses to allow even the dignity of gathering dust. My footprint stuffs the digital shelves of datacenters for sites and accounts I do not remember making.
I've made a horde of scattered exoskeletons, shells which I cannot even call ghosts because that implies a presence. They are husks. They are archives. They are records. I do not ever consider the mercy of allowing them to die.
Well this got real eldritch real fast
August Mystery Skulls Animated Update + Notice About the Release Date
A message from our director Mysteryben:
“I had originally stated that October was something of an ideal goal point in releasing the video since that October time frame is pretty significant for us historically. I did not want to hard confirm that date until I had some better idea when things would be ready.
“While progress is still being made on our end, it is not at the pace that would likely make it in time for an October release. Part of that is due to people we have lined up to assist us in production are busy on other projects and until they are freed up there isn’t much we can do until they are available.
Since this will likely be our last big project for a while, we did not want to have people rushed on things just to get it out the door. This combined with the fact that we still don’t quite have all of the animatic pieces in place makes it tough to nail down what a hard release date looks like at the moment. As such it is likely best to assume that production will go into next year.
Apologies that the August update here is a bit of a bummer. Should anything come up in the meantime or if we need to make a call out to people for additional help, I will be sure to let everyone know. While I would like to have SOMETHING meaty to show off in October, I don’t quite know what that will consist of at the moment.
As usual, I want to thank everyone for your continued support and patience. I’m hoping we can get something a bit more exciting out to ya’ll next month.”
-Ben
- cáca (cake) vs caca (poo)
- bríste (trousers) vs briste (broken)
- éire (ireland) vs eire (burden)
- léamh (reading) vs leamh (weak)
- órla (name meaning "golden princess") vs orla (vomit)
- seán (irish for jean/john) vs sean (old)
- snámh (swim) vs snamh (dislike)
and that, friends, is why remembering the fada is extremely important in irish. you wouldn't want to go to the gaeltacht and order a caca instead of a cáca, would you?
bonus: séan with the fada on the e means "deny"
list of good irish words
- ríomhaire: they were literally so right making this one. looking at my laptop like fuck yeah thats a riomhaire
- uisce: it has such shape its so effervescent ephemeral stunning brilliant. that brand of water called ishka can catch my fucking blade why would you change its shape its literally perfect i hate you
- leabharlinn: its a library. it has illiteration. what's not to love? honourable mention to literally every other place name with 'linn' in it. pictíur, snámh, bia, they literally never miss.
- púca: 1000/10 literally the most fitting word ever. does 'ghost' leave an impression? fuck off no it doesnt! does 'púca' leave an impression? yes it shapes your mouth it is incredible
- tiocfidh: its very very fun to tell non-irish people that its pronounced like 'chuck-ig'
- aiteach: we love the gays we love the lovely words
- agus: basic of the basics but its still great. daily i have to resist the urge to drop an 'agus' instead of 'and' when speaking english
I just have one tiny tweak I wanna make to that last scene. Otherwise no notes, A+ game.
[image description: A five-panel comic shows a ginger cat walking out of a dark, overgrown alley and up some mossy stairs into the sunlight. The small drone the cat is carrying in its mouth gleams in the sun. After reaching the top of the stairs, the cat places the drone onto the mossy ground and sits beside it, looking up at the sun in the sky.]
